Hareleeshill Nursery class

We would like to welcome everyone back to nursery for the start of a new term and would also like to welcome our new children and families to Hareleeshill Nursery class. We have lots going on at nursery this term. The children have chosen ‘The Tiger who came to tea’ for our book of the month. Children have been exploring the story at nursery, and at home. We have had some lovely feedback on how children explore the characters and parts of the story through sensory play within their home environment.

Families have also been choosing stories from our ‘Story Tree’ in the form of lanyards and QR codes. Children have been inspired to listen to a story electronically and parents can take part in the experience.

Primary 1 have made a fantastic start to the school year and are settling into their new routines brilliantly! 🌟

In Maths, we have been counting and recognising numbers to 10, developing our confidence through lots of practical activities and games.

In Literacy, we have started learning our initial sounds and are beginning to recognise and read some common words.

Our topic this term is ‘Life in the Past’, where we are learning about how people lived, played and travelled in the past and comparing this with life today.

We have PE on Tuesdays and Fridays, so please remember to bring PE kits on these days.

We are so proud of how well Primary 1 have settled in and are looking forward to all the exciting learning ahead! 🌈

Room 1 have settled really well into the new term and are enjoying exploring their new topic, Pets. We are developing our early maths skills through counting and patterns, while in literacy we are learning core words, sequencing books and enjoying rhymes. We also visit the sensory gym every day, where we have lots of opportunities to explore, move and develop our sensory skills. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting term of learning together!

It has been a fantastic start to the term in P2/3! The children have settled really well back into the classroom and are quickly getting back into our daily routines.

Our PE days are Monday and Thursday, so please remember to have PE kits ready for these days.

This term, we are excited to be exploring the wonderful world of Knights and Castles! We will be learning about castles, knights, kings and queens, and discovering what life was like long ago. We are looking forward to lots of fun and exciting learning along the way!

We have had a busy and exciting start to the term with our new P1s in Room 2! Each week, we introduce a new rhyme and a core word for the children to focus on. Our core words are the same ones we have already been practising through homework: I, want, like, not like and it. The children enjoy seeing and signing these words while taking part in a variety of fun activities.

Room 2 love visiting the sensory gym and sensory room, where they have lots of opportunities to explore, play and have fun. We also enjoy spending time outdoors during our themed playtimes.

The children are settling in really well and are getting to know their teachers and peers. We enjoy our welcome time each morning, singing songs together and taking part in activities that help us develop our fine motor skills. The children also enjoy making choices about what they would like to play with.

We have lots of fun during music with Mr Barclay on a Wednesday. Recently, we had the opportunity to play the drums, which was great fun!

It has been a fantastic start to the term, and we are so proud of how well everyone in Room 2 is settling in and joining in with all our activities.

We look forward to seeing the children progress!

Mrs Cairns and Mrs Valentine

Room 3 have settled well back into our routines after a long summer! We have been enjoying lots of play with our friends and exploring some nursery rhymes through sensory activities. We have been enjoying some focused movement time where each day has a theme- our favourite so far has been 'Trike Tuesdays'. We are all looking forward to seeing where our learning takes us this year! 

P4/5 have settled into their new class well and are enjoying getting to know their new way of working through Active 8. They are developing greater independence and taking more responsibility for their learning each day. 

Our current topic is Ancient Egypt, where we are learning all about the fascinating world of pharaohs, pyramids and Egyptian life. 

Our PE days are Monday and Tuesday, so please remember to bring PE kits on these days

We are settling into our new routines and the children are all getting to know each other now.  We have P.E. on a Friday, but access outdoor play and the Sensory Gym daily.  Some of our boys are working on a topic about Space, developing our knowledge and understanding of the planets around us.  We have sensory play and other sensory learning activities too.

Primary 5/6 have made a fantastic start to the new school year and have settled in so well!

It has been lovely to see them growing in confidence, getting to know one another and enjoying their learning. They have been fascinated by our Titanic topic and are now enjoying exploring the wonders of outer space through our STEM activities.

We are so proud of the enthusiasm, curiosity and excitement they are showing every day!

The children in Room 5 have settled well into their new routines and class life. We have been working on our routines of the day. We have been enjoying sensory time and opportunities to build our fine motor skills daily. 

Our mini topic this term is dinosaurs. We will be exploring some different types of dinosaurs, their diets and their homes. We can't wait to create some ROARsome artwork too! 

We have music on a Wednesday with Mr Barclay and this term we are focusing on our drumming, rhymth and performing skills! 

Room 6 have settled in well and enjoying the new classroom routines. We have started our Natural Disasters topic and the children are really keen and engaged. Within our topic we will cover lots of different curricular areas including ICT, science and art. 

Our P.E days are Thursdays and Fridays - please ensure your child has a change of clothes, including trousers/shorts, P.E top and shoes. We will be outside for some of our sessions so having a jacket would be good for the colder, wetter weather.  

7 are settling in nicely to their new routines. They are working hard for their final year of primary with lots of exciting visits and trips planned between now and June. We have P.E 2 days a week, on a Monday and a Thursday. Children are only required to bring shorts with them as the school has purchased P.E tops.

Our current topic this term is the Rainforest and our class novel is Holes.
