S1 Art & Design Course Outline

The aim of the S1 course is to give a general introduction to the world of art and design while learning about the visual elements.
In S1 learners will be working with:  LINE, TONE, COLOUR, FORM, SHAPE TEXTURE and PATTERN.
  Each unit will focus on one or more of the elements and will include practical exercises, learning new techniques and skills and an appreciation of other artists’ work and learning new artistic vocabulary.

These units are designed to teach a wide range of skills that allow creativity but also encourage the four capacities in Cfe and the core issues of numeracy, literacy and health and well-being.

S2 Art & Design Course Outline

The aim of the S2 course is to engage in a skill based learning introduce principles of Design folios and Expressive Folios in preparation for the National courses.

Pupils will complete 2 Design units and 2 Expressive Units throughout the S2 course focusing on building the skills in drawing, painting, design and construction. Pupils will also research the work of artists and designers to help give context to their learning.
