SKSU attends 36th AACCUP Annual National Conference and General Assembly 2023
The Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) attended the 36th AACCUP Annual Conference and General Assembly 2023. The team was headed by no less than the University President Samson L. Molao, EdD together with VPAA Jesusa D. Ortuoste, PhD, Faculty Regent Engr. Eulogio L .Apellido, Jr., MIT, Director of ACCESS Campus Ernie C. Cerado, PhD and the Director for Quality Assurance Elmer C. Buenavides, DIT. The said conference was held at Century Park Hotel, 599 P. Ocampo St., Malate Manila, 1004 Metro Manila last March 27-29, 2023 with the Theme: “Strengthening a Culture of Quality Assurance in higher Education through Partnerships in Accreditation”. It was also noted that the conference was attended by 116 State Universities and Colleges across the country.
The highlights of the conference were the series of messages from the invited keynote speakers, the general assembly and election of the new AACCUP Board of Trustees for 2023-2025, the awarding of the most number of programs accredited, the awarding of employees who are loyal in the service to AACCUP, but what is more exciting was the awarding of SUCs with Institutional Accreditation for 2022 in which SKSU is proud to be one in the list. Former SKSU President Rolando F. Hechanova, PhD together with the key officials of SKSU in attendance received the Plaque of Recognition. The Executive Director of AACCUP Dr. Milabel E. Ho delivered the Statement of Purpose. She emphasized in her message that the conference’s main purpose is to inform all member SUCs that all programs should be INTERNALIZED, INSTITUTIONALIZED and INTERNATIONALIZED. She stressed further that accreditation is the assurance that the institution has satisfied the standards for quality and excellence.
THE NEW AND SENIOR ACCREDITORS OF SKSU JOIN WORKSHOP
ON OUTCOMES-BASED QUALITY ASSURANCE AND
ONLINE ACCREDITATION ORIENTATION (PART-2)
The Quality Assurance Division through its Accreditation Unit chaired by no less than Ms. Crizjale V. Ahmad identified the new and senior accreditors of the University to join the workshop on Outcomes-Based Quality Assurance and Online Accreditation Orientation (Part-2) . They were Dr. Elmer C. Buenavides, Dr. Rodelyn M. Dalayap (senior accreditors), Dr. Allan Jay S. Cajandig, Dr. Elbren O. Antonio, Ms. Rosalinda B. Ona, Ms. Crizjale V. Ahmad (new accreditors) and Dr. Helen M. Espartero (Institutional Accreditation).
This activity was organized and conducted by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, Inc. (AACCUP) last August 2-4, 2023 at Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) –Manila. The mode of the activity was hybrid in order to accommodate those who are willing to join both online and face to face. In fact, it was attended by more or less 660 participants from different State Colleges and Universities nationwide. These participants were clustered based on the level of experience in accreditation. The Preliminary Survey Visit (PSV), Levels I and II were clustered as one for new accreditors, for Levels III and IV were clustered together for senior accreditors and one cluster for the Institutional Accreditation which was entrusted also to the senior accreditors.
After the opening program, the host University provided different venues for the three (3) clusters to ensure that the assigned discussants and facilitators can concentrate and to deliver effectively the intended topics. The participants went through rigid lectures and workshops to familiarize the New Guidelines for AACCUP accreditation and to demonstrate correctly how to conduct accreditation once deployed to be an accreditor in respective SUCs.
Ms. Crizjlae V. Ahmad was tasked in their group to present their outputs. They were being taught of how to facilitate the PSV and the Levels I and II.
Dr. Helen M. Espartero was assigned in the Institutional Accreditation cluster. She was also tasked to present the outputs of their group and in her report she emphasized the significance of knowing the procedures when the management of a certain SUC will venture into IA. During the closing program she also shared their experiences encountered during the workshop and how they worked together as a team.
Dr. Elmer C. Buenavides and Dr. Rodelyn M. Dalayap were assigned in the Levels III and IV cluster. They were with the senior accreditors who are quoted as serious in handling accreditation in the higher levels. A mind-boggling workshop was experienced by all of them in their cluster with their young, seasoned and brilliant discussants. Such rigid activities made them refreshed of what they have learned before and truly they have gained also new knowledge and insights for them to be equipped as accreditors in the higher levels of program accreditation.
On the last day of the seminar, all participants from different clusters were gathered in one venue for the closing program. Some of the dignitaries gave their messages and if you summed up the thoughts, they just wanted to convey their gratitude for the active participation of those who attended the training and laid down some challenges ahead that all accreditors should know how to handle and remain professional in the service for quality assurance. Each cluster has chose one to give impression. But what made everyone more exciting about was the words of encouragement from the Dr. Milabel E. Ho, the Executive Director of AACCUP. She simply highlighted the significance of the training and the role of the AACCUP accreditors to sustain its mandate for quality assurance. She made mention also some of the future important activities for all the accreditors of AACCUP.
The team from SKSU is grateful of this fruitful and productive activity. Everyone believes that the new experiences and knowledge will help them equipped enough to help the accreditation endeavour of the University and at the same time capable already to extend assistance to other SUCs that need their services through accreditation. With this, they are very grateful to the usual support of the University President Dr. Samson L. Molao. Truly, SKSU is a generator of solutions.
