November 2022
This month has been all about blood and nerves. These two systems are found everywhere in our body, so we concluded that they must be vey important! Students used the microscopes to take a look at blood and nerves, as well as the bone, muscle and skin that they studied last month. Dr. Hayes spoke the 7th and 8th grades about his job as a vascular surgeon, and explained many of the things that can go wrong when you don't take care of your cardiovascular system. Eating healthy and exercising are one way to take care of the cardiovascular system. One other major danger to the this system is nicotine. Dr. Hayes spoke to them about the dangers of nicotine in cigarettes and vaping. The students learned a great deal and enjoyed seeing first hand the tools that are used by vascular surgeons, such as an ultrasound machine and stents.
