Social Studies

Welcome to 7th grade Social Studies!

This year students will begin studying early American History, from 1607-1865. They will begin to develop critical thinking skills that will help them to become successful in every facet of their lives. For the first time they will be analyzing primary and secondary sources, and looking at events in American History through a variety of perspectives. Students will be facing a variety of challenges, and will be learning to work independently, with a partner, and in small groups. They will continue to develop their reading comprehension skills, as well as their writing skills. They will learn to build self-confidence throughout the year, and will be delivering at least one presentation to the class.

We will be utilizing a variety of technology and sources throughout the year, and students will have the opportunity to learn basic research skills using their computers and using books as well. Students will be quizzed on their knowledge of the map of the United States at least four times throughout the year as well, once per quarter, and by the end of the year labeling all 50 states correctly.

Four major units will be completed this year:

  1. Colonial America
  2. Revolutionary America
  3. Government and Civics
  4. The American Civil War
