Mini Project Question: Construction of a Residential Building

Title:

Preparation of Detailed Estimate, Rate Analysis, and Specifications for the Construction of a G+1 Residential Building

Objective:

To prepare a comprehensive estimate, rate analysis, and specification document for the construction of a two-storey (G+1) residential building using the Short Wall–Long Wall Method, Centre Line Method, and RCC Component Estimation principles.(Use any one method for calculation)

Project Description:

Redraw given drawing from feet, inches to meter:

You are required to prepare the detailed estimate, abstract of cost, and rate analysis for the construction of a G+1 residential building having the following features.

Refer to given drawings.

Tasks to be Performed:

Part A – Quantity Estimation

1. Study the provided building drawings (Plan, Elevation, Section).

2. Compute quantities for all items of work:

   • Earthwork in excavation and filling

   • PCC bed

   • Brick masonry in foundation and superstructure

   • RCC work in footing, column, beam, and slab

   • Plastering, flooring, doors, and windows

3. Use Short Wall–Long Wall method and Centre Line method for verification.

4. Prepare the abstract of estimated cost.

Part B – RCC Component Estimation

1. Estimate quantities of concrete and reinforcement for ( one element ):

   • RCC slab

   • RCC beam

   • RCC column

   • RCC footing

2. Prepare bar bending schedule (BBS) for major RCC elements.

Part C – Rate Analysis

1. Perform rate analysis for:

   • Earthwork excavation

   • Brick masonry

   • RCC works (slab, beam, column)

   • Plastering

   • Flooring

2. Include Direct and Indirect Costs, overheads, and contractor’s profit.

Part D – Specifications

1. Write general specifications for building works.

2. Write detailed specifications for at least five items:

   • Earthwork

   • Brickwork

   • RCC work

   • Plastering

   • Flooring

Part E – Additional Components

1. Prepare an estimate for a manhole and septic tank for the same building by assuming 5 number of people in each building.

2. Prepare summary and conclusions.
