Our History

SMIC was founded by OFM Bishop Amandus Bahlmann (OFM, 1862-1939) and Sister Tang Xinjie (Mother Immaculata Tombrock, 1887-1938) in Brazil in 1910. Since then, the nuns have been distributed in Asia, Africa, and South Africa. North America.


In the name of the Immaculate Conception, we cultivate the spiritual spirit of the Virgin Mary in our lives, and testify for the gospel in modern times.

We follow the example of Saint Francis, follow the gospel of Jesus, and live a life of chastity, poverty, and obedience.

So far, nuns are distributed in Asia, Africa, and South and North America.


SMIC in Taiwan

Our History

The Sisters of the Catholic Church was founded in Brazil in 1910 by Sister Tang Xinjie, an ancestor of German nationality. In 1930, Huizu sent six young German nuns to rural Shandong and Tianjin, China. Seeing the needs of the local poor, the nuns immediately invested in social services such as caring for orphans and opening refugee hospitals. In 1937, they took over the Holy Maidens Middle School and started education. Pass work. Leren Hospital was established in 1945 to provide medical services for the wounded and the poor. In 1948 the nuns retreated from China and came to Taiwan.


Relying on the belief in serving others, the Sisters of the Holy Sheng Kung found a place to live in Kaohsiung. From medical care, education to social welfare work, the Sisters of the Holy Sheng Kung has successively rebuilt hospitals and schools in Taiwan. It was established in 1976. Ren Social Service Center.


Since 1998, the Sisters of the Holy Sheng Kung Association began to accept the Ministry of the Interior to handle the halfway homes for women and children victims of domestic violence, and then Kaohsiung City and Kaohsiung County successively commissioned the Sisters of the Holy Sheng Kung to provide services for single-parent families.


In view of the increasing demand for social welfare and the government’s trust in the Sisters’ Association, the Sisters’ Association formally established the "Sacred Foundation for Social Welfare" on October 30, 2003.

SMIC Sisters in Taiwan

In Taiwan we have the local Taiwanese sisters and sisters from Vietnam. Our administration center is located in Tainan, south of Taiwan. Our ministries are in the fields of medical care, social service, and education.
