ST. CLARE OF ASSISI

About St. Clare

St. Clare was one of the first followers of St. Francis of Assisi.  Born in 1194, she founded an order called the Order of Poor Ladies, which was later renamed the Order of Saint Clare, commonly called the Poor Clares. Clare was the daughter of a wealthy family, but left her wealth behind during her teenage years to model her life after the Gospel after she  heard St. Francis of Assisi preach. We celebrate her feast day on Aug. 11.
