Mary Jane O'Marah's Third Grade
My name is Mary Jane O'Marah, this is my 22nd year teaching. I was born and raised in San Rafael, California. I went through the public school system, and even attended College of Marin. I then went to summer school at Univ of Hawaii, and got my diploma in design from San Jose State Univ. After I had children, I followed them to Hacienda Elementary, where I began subbing and became the 4/5 release teacher for art and PE. My career took me to Pioneer High School teaching math, art and yearbook. I took several long term assignments while working on my teaching credential including teaching SH (severely handicapped) at Pioneer, and Montessori kindergarten at Hammer Elementary, I worked at Lincoln High school, and for the district as the PDC Coordinator (placing special needs students). I went to school nights to earn my degree while I continued to work at John Muir Middle and Castro/Campbell Union Middle school in math and science. When I completed my degree in Multiple subjects I found my home here at Williams. I had been teaching 3rd grade for the last 13 years, and 2nd grade for a couple years and 5th grade for the last few years. I am also GATE certified.
I was in a marriage that gave me three wonderful children. All of them have been through the San Jose Unified School system. They attended Hacienda Elementary, the older two went to Castillero, and my youngest to Bret Harte, and all three went to Pioneer. I am now happily divorced.
My oldest son Taylor, 32, as a plumber for the Santa Cruz Plumbers Union. My daughter Kylee, 29 works as a H.R. Business Partner for Marvell, and my son Hayden, 26 works in the San Jose Electric Union. They continue to be the light in my life and I love spending as much time as possible with them, all of their significant others and especially my grandaughter, Trinity.
I have a very active social life with friends and family, Some are even teachers from many districts who all love wine tasting :) I love going to sporting events, particularly hockey and football. I have gone to almost every home game of the 49ers with my dad (since I was 8), even all the preseason games. My brother, parents, aunts, uncles and cousins all live in Marin and Sonoma county - so I travel there often. I love binging on Netflix, Craft Nites, and watching trash tv with my girlfriends.
I am a strong believer in parent-teacher communication and understand that by working together as a team we can ensure that our students will thrive. With that in mind, I am looking forward to an exciting and positive school year. One of the best ways to reach me is by email momarah@sjusd.org
