Experience at Willow Glen Middle School
I have been teaching at Willow Glen Middle School since 1997 and at SJUSD for over 30 years.. I am presently teaching 6th grade Science at Willow Glen Middle School and loving it. The students are wonderful and the community has been very supportive of our science program. I believe in an activity and project-base curriculum which includes common core skills and collaboration. NGSS are taught to provide a good background in Science to prepare students for high school and beyond. Multiple strategies based on research are used to provide a supportive environment of learning and the use of several study skills. In addition, our dissection labs make our program challenging and unique.
Background Prior to Willow Glen Middle School
I have a major in Molecular Biology, a minor in Chemistry, and a teaching credential from San Jose State University. During my college years, I worked at Alexian Brothers Hospital (now called Regional Medical Center of San Jose) as an EKG technician for more than 5 years, serving the emergency room, ICU/TCU, floors, and cardiopulmonary doctors with transcriptions. Previously to that, I volunteered hours serving in the emergency room for a year. Before being hired by San Jose Unified, I took a year being a substitute for East Side Union School District. Burnett Academy provided me with over 9 years of experience in teaching 6th grade Science, 8th grade Science. Aerospace and teaching math.

Attendance is important because we are conducting investigations and practicing our Science skills each day. Excused absence will allow to make up the work within one week.
* Homework is important! It is used to practice good study skills and review science concept learned. It is given every week.
*Organization is key in Science. Science assignments are listed in order in the Table of Contents of the Notebook.
Students can self-regulate their learning by seeing finished work, in addition to using them as a tool for studying.
Be careful when emptying backpacks. :-)
Science notebooks with assignments are worth 1/4 of the student's grade. It is a portfolio. See the Notebook Rubric in the notebook.
The agenda shows our short term goals and the focus of our day. This is also worth 1/4 of the student's grade.
Students must have the following materials with them each day!
