Welcome!
Scope of Work:
This site features a collection of Young Adult materials that I discovered in the summer of 2025 for my INFO 265 Materials for Young Adults course. The goal is for it to feature materials of all sorts that appeal to teen interests, including, but not limited to, TV shows, movies, video games, books, and audiobooks. The intent is for viewers to leave having found some media they wouldn't have otherwise.
About me:
My name is Kat Foster and I am a Middle School librarian and graduate student at San Jose State University. I previously graduated from Western Oregon University with a Bachelor's in English Writing and a minor in English Literature. My goal is to become a Teen Librarian at a Public Library in the future. When I'm not reading, I can be found sewing, crafting, playing board games, or planning my next Dungeons & Dragons session. I currently live in Oregon with my two cats. You can contact me at kat.foster@sjsu.edu
Final Reflection:
If there’s one thing I’ve noticed while putting this collection together, it’s that teens today aren’t limiting themselves to just one way of consuming stories. They’re bouncing between books, graphic novels, streaming shows, movies, video games, and whatever’s trending on TikTok, sometimes all in the same afternoon. They want stories that hook them fast, but also ones that make them feel seen, whether that’s a fantasy with a queer protagonist, a rom-com that actually gets teen humor right, or a thrilling horror story. They’re drawn to variety, diversity, and content that feels relevant, and they’re just as likely to get invested in an indie web series as a big-name franchise. More than anything, their entertainment is about connection. Whether that's seeing a piece of themselves in a character, finding a community in a fandom, or just a sharing a laugh or cry with friends. The lines between “popular” and “literary” really don’t matter to them anymore, and honestly, I think that’s what makes curating for this age group so exciting.
