Why I Chose Jason Reynolds
Why I Chose Jason Reynolds
I chose to do my author study about Jason Reynolds because his book are by far and away the most popular in my shared middle and high school library. His verse novel, Long Way Down, has been checked out over 150 times in the last few years, which is a lot considering we only have 450 students at our high school. We currently have fifteen copies of it our collection, all of which are out at the moment as well. Another reason that I picked Jason Reynolds is that two of the books he co-authored with others, All American Boys and Stamped, were on ALA's Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2020, coming at numbers two and three. I love his approach to reading, to writing, and his world views in general, so this author study has been an excellent opportunity to dig deeper and learn more about him, his books, his views on censorship, and his perspective on all that his happening in the world today.
