The Open Quantum Frontier Institute (OQFI) is an interdisciplinary network spanning seven institutions, lead by the Colorado School of Mines. Together we seek both to develop radical new quantum technologies and transform quantum education in the United States. There is presently a shortage of talented young scientists to do the research necessary to make quantum technology a useful reality. Our Institute aims to create a broad network of educational offerings in Quantum Engineering at all levels from undergraduate to graduate and serve as a model to inspire new teaching innovations across the country. In addition to educational offerings, six research thrusts are being evaluated, each representing both a frontier area of quantum science and an area of strength for a subset of the partner institutions. Thrust Leaders provide overall vision and coordinate technical activities.
