I started my position as an assistant professor in the Biological Sciences Department at San Jose State University in August 2025. I am an evolutionary ecologist studying how anthropogenic global changes affect vertebrate evolution and conservation. I am particularly interested in examining how spreading diseases affect the physiology and behavior of novel hosts. I am passionate about mentoring and sharing my love of birds with my students!Â
We are actively recruiting undergraduate students this fall 2025 but please be aware that space may be limited. We will be recruting Master's students for fall 2026. If you are a current or future SJSU student interested in joining the team, please email me (gabrielle.names@sjsu.edu) for more information.
