Controlling Robots using EEG-based Brain-Machine Interfaces

With a partnership with Moscow High School, I initiated an outreach educational program in 2017 intending to provide early exposure of neural engineering to high school students. The program offers an opportunity for high school students to learn the fundamentals of brain signals and how they can use their thoughts to control external devices such as robots by developing brain-machine interfaces.

Low-Cost EEG Device as a Learning Tool for High School Students

I am interested in using an EEG device as an educational tool to introduce the fundamentals of brain signals and dynamics at the high school level. The purchase of existing EEG devices for educational purposes is unaffordable for many high schools, which limits the accessibility of these devices to individual students in large classes. Using a senior design project at the University of Idaho as a platform, I developed low-cost EEG devices for educational purposes. My long-term goal is to create step-by-step instructions on how to build the EEG device and disseminate these to make them broadly available to students nationwide.
