Potential Use: This documentary provides a broad sweep and compelling thesis about the institutionalization of not only racial bigotry, but of defactor slavery. Including it as a supplemental or anchor text allows viewers to analyze an argument and understand the complexities of racial division in American history. It can be used effectively in a Socratic seminar. It addition it can provide potential topics for independent inquiry.

Potential Use: On its own, this op-ed by Ekow N. Yankah allows the reader to explore the concept of white privilege and the distrust that lays at the foundation of discussion about race. Readers should not only seek to understand Yankah's perspective, but also consider the difficulty that some audiences might have with his position.

Potential Use: Tucker Carlson response to Yankah provide an opportunity to observe how the construct of race creates division. By analyzing the exchange between Carlson and Yankah, the viewer comes into a first hand experiences with the difficulty we face when discussing race. An attempt should be made to understand the argument and perspective set by both individuals. In addition, this video elicit the desire to explore more constructive ways to approach the discussion of race.

Potential Use: These images serve to introduce the use of media to draw attention to topics through the use of shock. These images could potentially be used to begin a lesson study on propaganda and the power of images. Although not included in this text set, additional images relating to how media can be used to dehumanize the other will challenge the viewer to recognize their responsibility for questioning the way media is used.

Potential Use: Like Coates, Powell challenges the us to consider how the conversation around race is divisive. While Coates does not offer any solutions, this podcast shifts the conversation to discussing belonging and the idea. Considered with the other pieces in the set, listeners could consider the hope possible as well as some of the barriers and limitations of Powell's perspective.
