Dr. Barash's research interests span multidisciplinary areas, such as craniofacial genetics, anthropology, biometrics, bioinformatics, machine learning, forensic genealogy, indirect DNA transfer, and forensic applications of massively parallel sequencing. The primary focus of this research lab is building innovative forensic intelligence tools for the prediction of externally visible characteristics, such as a person's facial appearance, pigmentation and other visible traits from a DNA sample. For additional information, please check the 'Current Research Projects' and 'Publications' pages.
For prospective students interested in joining our research team, please email Dr. Barash the following information:
Your name and Student ID
Your year, major, & concentration at SJSU (your major & concentration does not have to be forensic science, but you're expected to have a reasonable background in biology OR computer science)
Your resume and a quick paragraph or two about what motivates you to contribute to our research and what are your career aspirations
Please note that students interested in contributing to our wet-lab research projects would need to commit for at least 2 semesters (ideally a year), working approximately 8-10 hours a week.
