Thank you for joining us for the BAESI summer workshop on Climate Change, made possible by the San Jose State University College of Science! We look forward to working with you to explore and strategies for engaging your students in solutions-oriented, NGSS-based inquiry-based learning! This workshop is completely online and will include both synchronous and asynchronous learning as well as small group experiences.
We will meet each day to discover, discuss, and share synchronously over Zoom. Because we don't want to be sitting for hours in front of our digital devices, breaks will include movement (Don't worry, you'll still have time to refresh that cup of coffee!). Lunch breaks will be extended to include time to process learning and work on an activity either synchronously or asynchronously. Every day will end with time to gather thoughts, plan, and network.
To maximize our synchronous time together, prior to and after the first workshop day, there will be activities to work on asynchronously. Videos to view before the workshop will provide knowledge background about Climate Change and specific foreknowledge for activities we will be doing and sharing-back with others. Asynchronous activities will allow everyone time to try out sample classroom activities. Share-backs will jigsaw our collective knowledge on the potential for using these activities in classes.
