SJP2CA has been fortunate to have a number of math coaches to support teachers and students over the years. 

Over the summer,
Ms. DeCarolis joined the SJP2CA family as the Academy Math Coach.

She is succeeding Ms. Perrault, who loved her time as math coach. 
"Ms. P." (or "Ms. Amy") is off to a new math adventure and looks forward to updates!

Math coaching involves a number of things, including direct work with both teachers and students. 

You may find the math coach in classrooms talking with students about their math learning, working with teachers on lesson plans and instruction, or providing resources and professional development.

Learning math is like playing an instrument, doing gymnastics, or learning to dance.  It takes time, patience, and practice to do well.

Math teaching has changed considerably in the last 20 years. 

We want students to think deeply, to explore, and to play with math, not just be able to compute or calculate. 

This means lots of hands-on tools, multiple strategies for learning a skill, and more open-ended problems and questions.

It may look very different from what you remember in your own schooling, so we want you to see what we're doing & why.
