University of Sri Jayewardenepura is one of the oldest academic establishments in Sri Lanka located in the administrative capital, being one of the leading national universities.Β
Today the University stands strong with eleven faculties, namely, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Faculty of Urban & Aquatic Bioresources and Faculty of Computing. It is considered the largest University in terms of Student Population in Sri Lanka.Β

The Department of Business Economics was established in 2002 with the prime objective of catering to the rising demand for an Economics degree within the management discipline.
B.Sc. Honours in Business Administration in Business Economics degree: a four-year fully-fledged degree programme that is currently one of the pioneering degree programs of this nature in the university system in Sri Lanka was introduced to the national education system.

Bizcon Students' Association
The Business Economics Studentsβ Association (BIZCON) which was established in 2003, promotes interpersonal relationships among the students and academic staff to achieve the objectives of the Department.
Further, BIZCON aims at enhancing the performance of the students through improving the knowledge, skills, and attitudes for which it annually organizes various activities such as exhibitions, competitions, and other social activities.
