I am truly blessed to be the new LYF Director at HKMCC! After teaching Faithbook for the past two years, I was asked to lead LYF. Born and raised Presbyterian most of my life, I converted to Catholicism after I married my wife Xuan, who is a lifelong Catholic. I served as a Youth Leader for 8 years in the past so I'm very excited to be involved with middle and high school students once again! I pray that with dedicated teachers, we can make LYF a place where students can grow in faith, develop a deeper relationship with God and find lasting friendships. Professionally, I am a CEO for cancer laboratory. I enjoy watching and playing sports in my spare time. GO WARRIORS!
MUSIC MINISTRY DIRECTOR
Hallelujah! Praise God in his holy sanctuary; give praise in the mighty dome of heaven.
Give praise for his mighty deeds, praise him for his great majesty.
Give praise with blasts upon the horn, praise him with harp and lyre.
Give praise with tambourines and dance, praise him with strings and pipes.
Give praise with crashing cymbals, praise him with sounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath give praise to the LORD
-- Psalm 150:1-5
"Sing it loud and proud, together with all the Angels in Heaven! Nuff said." Dr. Lee
Hello my name is Woojae and I am your mighty seventh grade teacher. As a lifelong Catholic I am excited to teach LYF. I was born in Korea back in the 70s and came to Burbank California when I was 4. I stayed in Burbank till I went to college at UCSB majoring in anthropology. After college I needed a job so I got one fixing computers. 20 years later I’m still fixing computers.
Having been a cradle Catholic, I grew up in the bosom of the Korean American Catholic Church in Los Angeles and Nor Cal. Through it, I have met those whom I deem my personal teachers, leaders, and friends. I want to give that to my own two girls and to the children of all my friends. During the weekdays, I earn my living working as an attorney for the criminal division of the San Francisco Superior Court.
Growing up in the Korean American Catholic Church, I experienced all the positives of community. As a dad to two amazing girls, I want them to have all the positive experiences of a Christian community that I had. I am serving in the LYF ministry to support this community within which my children are growing. During the day, I moonlight in the financial services industry working for Ameriprise.
I am 37 years old pharmacist that works for CVS. I love to workout at the gym and volunteer my time to make this world a better place. I am emperor of the nerds, to where Sheldon Cooper kneels to me and ask me to kiss my ring of power, where I respond, "which one?" I love to travel and see new places and I love to eat.
A Californian at heart, I love exploring the world, traveling and living in over 25 countries. I felt the presence of God on several occasions during dangerous summit at Mt. Fuji in Japan and while praying in an ancient Catholic church in Portugal. I have two graduate degrees studying at CSU Sacramento (CSUS) and Cornell University as well as obtaining a postgraduate fellowship at UC Berkeley. As an educator, I've taught at UC Davis and CSUS as well as in Japan for Hiroshima Board of Education. I was a Sunday School teacher as well as an active leader in Catholic Youth Ministry for over eight years. I am very excited to teach the eighth grade class at HKMCC and looking forward to getting to know each student.
I was born in 1980 in the eclectic suburb of Takoma Park, Maryland. I enjoy writing and began my career at the age of 9 with my first children's book. Influenced by my parents' St. Lucian and Guyanese cultures, I developed a flair for depicting themes of small island ideals and family values in my writing. In 2003, I founded an independent production company, Red Diamond Films. I completed my bachelor's degree in Behavior, Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics in the biological sciences at the University of Maryland. I've been teaching confirmation for the past few years and look forward to many more years to come!
I'm just a regular person trying to live my best life. You may know me as one of Fr. Joe's sisters. And I'm so grateful to be co-teaching the Confirmation Candidates this year. I've been Catholic my whole life and without my faith and love for God, I would not be the person I am today. In this life journey, I received my teaching credential and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership, lived in 3 different states with my husband Louis, and now raise 4 beautiful children. Oh- and I'm now training for my first ever marathon! Life is busy, but I am so excited to walk this Christian journey with you. So together let's figure out how we can best live out our faith every single day!
10TH - 12TH
I have four kids and a wife. I taught Computer Science at a Catholic high school for 17 years. Now, I make comic books for a living. I kind of hate the outdoors but have to go there often because of church.
A 90's baby who is happily married for 3 years and lives in San Francisco. Loves EDM music, good food, free spirited, very outspoken, family & friends orientated, Office Manger at a commercial real estate firm, and living life to the fullest. Navigating life is a struggle, but having faith is a great booster! I'm happy to be a teacher at HKMCC and help guide students into faith and life.
It's tough trying to balance the nuances of transitioning from adolescence to young adulthood and also adhering to our Catholic faith. As your teacher, I look forward to walking through this process with all of you. Some fun facts about me - I'm completely OBSESSED with boba! I work as a high school counselor to help pay for my milk tea addiction. When I'm not day dreaming about boba, I enjoy spending my free time listening to BTS with my daughter (yes, she's a maniacal 9 year old soldier) and husband, of course.
LYF MEDIA & PHOTOGRAPHER
I share the same name as my patron saint, St. Peter. I'm one of many Peter's you'll meet in your lifetime. I'm a dedicated Catholic who believes that everyone deserves God's love and attention. It starts by you tuning out all the distractions in the world and praying to God silently every day. Outside of church, I enjoy going on hikes, spending time with family, and taking pictures of people and random things. I'm excited in meeting you all this year. May God bless you!
I taught youth ministry for six years at my old church, and loved addressing every day issues with God’s solutions. Even when we stray, we are always called back. My favorite past-time is eating yummy foods! Open your heart and minds, and please make time for LYF. The LYF team is here to support you, live our faith with you, and to love you!
I am a proud Catholic who is originally from Irvine. I was heavily involved in the youth ministry at Korean Martyrs Catholic Center in Orange County. At UCSD, I helped lead the Kyrie Korean Catholic Fellowship. That’s where I met my wife, Yuna. After getting married, we moved nine times within the cities of Los Angeles, San Antonio, Seoul, Boston, and Davis so I could complete my orthodontic education and to also fulfill US Army military service. My wife and I are happy to settle down in San Jose with our three young children. When I'm not straightening teeth, I enjoy singing karaoke, learning the latest K-pop dance covers and watching sports.
THIS COULD BE YOU!
LYF WOULD NOT BE WORTH LIVING FOR WITHOUT GREAT MENTORS SO HURRY UP AND COME JOIN US!
