Statement of Teaching and Research Philosophy
Teaching is a wonderful field. As a teacher I am working with children, packed with infinite capabilities. Every child is unique and blessed with his or her own talent. My aim is to inspire them and get inspired. This is a field where I am in competition with myself. I always think how I can reach my students 100 percent. I experiment with my teaching methods and always plan to inspire my students to learn by themselves. In my teaching I always love to conduct discussions, ask questions to make the students to think on the subject. I strongly believe that student can gain and create knowledge only by thinking. In fact, every student can brew as an engineer by thinking. My role as a teacher is to develop curiosity among the students. Curiosity to know and curiosity to apply are the key things of growth of engineers. I always assess myself how much I could improve my performance compare to my previous performance. Because of which I can grow constantly as a teacher. I do this after every class of mine. I create my own examples, analogies to relate the scientific concepts to real life situations so that the student can visualize and relish learning. As a teacher my constant efforts is to make the learning a pleasurable experience for the students. When there is a happiness and joy students love to learn.
I always start teaching with an orientation. The main objective of this orientation is to frame the student’s mindset towards learning. My main emphasizes are on developing interest on the subject and students growth as engineers day by day. I am also convinced that there is no parallel to quality and readiness to change with the time. As a teacher I have to be research oriented. I have to teach students with updated knowledge and give them new dimensions of thinking about the subject. This will inspire the students to take up the studies with a research aptitude. An engineering student must have an investigative instinct.
I am happy to quote one of my students feedback 'A different method of teaching. It was difficult to realize this method in the beginning but is the one of the best classes. Since its more than just sitting in the class idle. We are motivated to think more than listening.'
Students can transform the information into their knowledge by constant reflection, and knowledge can be evolved as skills. When knowledge and skills are used with wisdom competence manifests. As a teacher I have to ensure these smooth transitions among the students with all my diligence.
Research is the base of any technological advancement. I am passionate about research. I have 17 years of research experience on Nonlinear optical materials, thin films, organic crystals and crystal growth. I published 18 research papers in the International journals and presented my work in many national and international conferences. Two of my research projects Irradiation Supported Design and Study of Nonlinear Optical Materials for Photonic Applications and Growth, Characterization, and properties of the Photonic Materials, were funded by DAE-BRNS, Govt of India and VTU Belagavi respectively. Presently I am guiding two research students for their doctoral degree. I am collaborating with leading researchers to achieve the common goal of technical advancement through research and innovation and to contribute for the growth of our nation. I passionately encourage and motivate our budding engineers to take up research and innovation as a profession and become Entrepreneurs.
I am happy for all my actions by which others are inspired. Being a teacher I can inspire thousands of peoples both by work, words and meaningful discussions.
