SJB Middle School Summer Reading 2022

Our summer reading book for the SJB incoming 6th graders, 7th graders, and 8th graders is Turtle in Paradise by Jennifer L. Holm.

Life's nothing like the movies, and Turtle knows enough not to expect a Hollywood ending. After all, it's 1935, the Depression. Jobs, money, and sometimes even dreams are scarce. So when Turtle is sent off to Key West, Florida, to live with relatives she's never met, she doesn't even shed a tear. Florida's hot and strange, full of ragtag boy cousins, family secrets, and even buried treasure! Before she knows what's happened, Turtle comes out of the shell she's spent her life building, and discovers a world that's more exciting than any Hollywood blockbuster.”

Please have a copy of this book and have it read by the first day of school in August 2022

About Mrs. Chepela

Hello SJB Middle School Families and Students!

My name is Danielle Chepela and I'm the 6-8th grade social studies teacher, the 8th grade reading teacher, and the 7th grade religion teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. This will be my third year teaching at St. John Brebeuf and my fifth year teaching over all. I'm a passionate history teacher who will hopefully help your child to become more analytical and thoughtful in the ways he or she looks at the past.

Please feel free to reach out to me at dchepela@sjbschool.org with any questions or concerns that you may have throughout the school year.

Please note that many of my assignments are through Google Classroom for the 2021-2022 school year. This is to make it simpler for students to know where to submit their assignments and when they are due. You should regularly check your child's Google Classroom to see when their assignments are due and what they have already submitted.

We will be making middle school announcements on our SJB Middle School Seesaw blog. Your child will be provided with the blog password when the Seesaw parent signup sheets are sent home or emailed during the first week of school.
