Art grading
I wanted to share a quick guide on how grading works in our art class so you know what to expect when checking PowerSchool.
How PowerSchool Grading Works
Day 1 Entry: I enter a grade in PowerSchool on the very first day we start a project.
Participation-Based: Art is an active, studio-based class. Students are graded continuously on daily participation, focus, and effort during class time.
Point Adjustments: If a student is off-task, disengaged, or excessively talking instead of working, they will lose participation points for that workday.
Dynamic Grades: Projects are typically due about a week after they are introduced. Until the final deadline, your child’s grade is fluid and reflects their ongoing studio habits.
By entering grades early, my goal is to give you and your child real-time visibility into their daily daily work habits before the project is officially turned in. If you ever notice a drop in their grade, it is usually a prompt to encourage them to refocus during studio time!
Music grading
Music Class Grading & Performance Expectations
Daily Class Participation: Music is a practical, ensemble-based subject. Students are graded daily on active participation, staying engaged during rehearsals, following along, and contributing positively to class practice.
School Performances: Attendance and participation at our scheduled school concerts and shows are a critical part of the curriculum.
Heavy Grade Weight on Concerts: Because our performances are the culmination of everything we work on in class, a significant portion of your child's overall grade is based on these concerts and shows.
Attending these performances allows our students to showcase their hard work and experience the rewarding feeling of performing as a team. Please keep an eye out for performance dates sent home in advance so you can mark your calendars!
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about concert dates or your child's progress.
