As always, students will be developing the processes of communicating, connecting with, using estimation and technology in, problem solving and reasoning with, and visualizing mathematics.
The following are the units students will be working on this year:
Number Sense: Divisibility rules, fraction and integer operations, decimals, percentages

Shape and Space: Circles, area, graphing using Cartesian coordinates, transformations
Probability: Central tendency and range, circle graphs, sample spaces, probabilities as fractions
Religion
In religion this year, we focus on Jesus’ life, his teachings and the sacraments he instituted. It presents Jesus’ call to each person to become his disciple and the ways in which his teachings, his sacraments and his Church nourish people for discipleship. We will also be looking at many different issues surrounding social justice as well this year, and how we can put our faith into action in our community. Religion will be structured from the Pearson’s Growing in Faith, Growing in Christ program.
Social Studies
In social studies this year, students will broaden their knowledge and understanding of the human and natural geography of the world outside of North America. We will work on using maps and atlases, the quality of life across the world, and the issues surrounding both developed and developing countries. We will also look at how these issues appear in current issues in the news. Students will reflect on and incorporate their own experiences while studying other cultures and ways of life.
Science
In science this year, students will be working in three units: the Earth’s Crust, Particle Theory, and Ecosystems. They will continue to perform experiments and investigations as part of their hands-on learning experience. As always, there will be a focus on developing inquiry skills and the scientific method of investigation, as well as safety and lab skills. They will also participate in a science fair, which will be included as part of their mark.
Art
The grade 7 art program will combine the creation of pieces of art with the appreciation of famous artists. Students will learn about various artists to inspire their own creations. They will also have opportunities to work with various mediums to create their artwork. Some of the mediums include:
· Clay
· Pencil
· Charcoal
· Oil pastels
· Paint
We will be using sketchbooks throughout the year to allow students to have a place to express their visual understanding and creativity.
Health
This year, students will be focusing on making positive lifestyle decisions about the issues of drugs and alcohol. We will be working with the Second Step program. As well, students will be doing a unit on human sexuality and the human reproductive system.
