Peking University
Peking University (abbreviation: PKU or colloquially known in Chinese as Beida 北大, Běidà), is a major Chinese research university located in Beijing, and a member of the C9 League. It is the first established modern national university of China, founded as the "Imperial University of Peking" in 1898 as a replacement of the ancient Guozijian (Chinese: 國子監; pinyin: guózǐjiàn). By 1920 it had become a center for progressive thought. Today, Peking University is frequently placed as one of the best universities in China by many national and international rankings. In addition to academics, Peking University is especially renowned for its campus grounds, and the beauty of its traditional Chinese architecture.
Hefei, My Hometown
Hefei (Chinese: 合肥; pinyin: Héféi; Wade–Giles: Ho-fei) is the capital and largest city of Anhui Province in Eastern China. A prefecture-level city, it is the political, economic, and cultural centre of Anhui. Located in the central portion of the province, it borders Huainan to the north, Chuzhou to the northeast, Chaohu to the southeast and Lu'an to the west.
Hefei has an area of 11,323 km2 (4,372 sq mi) and, as of 2010 Census, a population of 7,457,027 inhabitants. Its built-up area ("metro") is home to 3,352,076 inhabitants encompassing all urban districts.
