The Story:

My coworkers and I were told that we needed to begin logging our time spent on issues at work (using a rather unfortunate ticket/time keeping application). The problem with this for me is that once I start digging into something I pay no attention whatsoever to anything else. This combined with a general lack of care for time drove me to searching the intarwebz for something that would track it for me. I found a few timers, all of which either required installations (which, for something like a timer, I find ridiculous) and/or weren't at all what I was looking for. I wanted something simple, straight forward, danger free (spyware..) and easy to pass out to everyone at work, so, I set off to do it myself.

I hadn't really done any programming since school so it was also a kind of "Hello again world" project for me. I built it in Visual Basic, liked it, then one busy day at work I hit the max number of lines (12 at the time) so I rewrote the base code. This time everything is created on the fly, allowing for unlimited lines and stuff to go with them. TimeTrack is a work in progress for me that can always be improved and, as such, I appreciate feedback of any kind (especially bugs!). I have quite a few features in mind to be added or adjusted, so keep on the lookout for new versions from time to time!

Manual

• Main form:

• (M1) Empty background stuff (yes, that's the technical name!)
  • Right-click anywhere in the body of the form to open a menu with more options including Settings (Right-click menu outlined below).
• (M2) Swap lines ( Alt + { )
  • Positioned between lines. Swaps everything in the two lines with each other.
  • (M3) Add line ( Alt + + )
    • Adds a new line at the bottom. Will stop adding lines when no more can fit between the top and bottom of your monitor (or taskbar if it's at either position)
  • (M4) Remove line ( Alt + - )
    • Removes the bottom-most line after a quick prompt to make sure.
    • Only shows once there are 2 or more lines.
  • (M5) Notes ( Tab )
    • Free-text field to type up notes or curse words to your heart's content.
  • (M6) Expand notes ( Alt + e )
    • Opens another form with a larger notes field and a timer used for setting reminders (Edit window outlined below).
• (M7) Time
  • Editable field increments in seconds when the timer is started.
  • (M8) Start/Stop time ( Alt + s )
    • Starts or stops the timer.
    • Displays "Start" when timer is inactive and "Stop" when it is active.
    • Will not start if the Time field does not have a number in all six places.
  • (M9) Reset time/Clear line ( Alt + r )
    • Resets the timer to 00:00:00 and clears the notes and reminders on the line.
    • Only works when timer is inactive.
    • First press ("Reset") will set the timer to 00:00:00. Display becomes "Clear"
    • Second press ("Clear") changes display to "Sure?"
    • Third press ("Sure?") will clear all of the line's notes and reminders. Will also remove the line if it is the bottom-most.
