1) Metal additive manufacturing
In 2016, we built a laser powder bed fusion simulator and integrated it with the high-speed synchrotron x-ray imaging and diffraction techniques at the Advanced Photon Source. In 2017, we demonstrated the power of the platform and published our first paper in Scientific Reports. In 2019, we published the results of keyhole morphology evolution in Science and fast spatter formation in Physical Review X. At the end of 2020, we published the results of boundary and origin of keyhole porosity in Science. At the beginning of 2022, we summarized the defects and anomalies in metal 3D printing and published a long review paper in Current Opinion in Solid State and Materials Science. In the middle, we published a review paper (in Chinese) on operando monitoring microstructures and defects in laser fusion additive manufacturing of metals in Chinese Science Bulletin.
