My practice devotes to creating fictional characters and their stories, where symbols derived from myths, tales, and daily lives are frequently used. As an introvert person, the characters help me to convey my thoughts out. They act as a bridge that connects my spiritual world and reality.
In my practice, the characters are often created in the form of mixed-media sculptures or installations. The medium has no limit on materials. It determines that the characters are non-humanistic imaginative creatures, yet constituted by objects from the daily life of human beings. Also, there is always a relationship between my body and my sculptures during the process of making. The works are formed within the shape of my palms, thighs, or my biggest hug, an artistic version of childbirth. Therefore, there is a parent-child relationship between me and my characters. I always treat my sculptures as independent creatures who acquire love and respect. I also believe they will go through different fates like humans.
On the other hand, the stories behind the characters can be seen as a dis-utopia mirror that reflects reality. By expanding my practice into the realm of digital art, I take my tales out of gallery space. Through technology, they can allocate in any corner of the contemporary world. Recently, I am exploring on combining digital painting, story text, music, and coding to produce interactive picture books in the form of an RPG game. It is a popular way of reading novels in Asia. As an artist works based on characters and stories, I find this system charming to produce artwork.
