Undergraduate Teaching
I taught SCM 404 (Demand Fulfillment) at Penn State from 2018-25. The course is one of the three prescribed foundation courses for the Supply Chain and Information Systems major for which SCM 301 Supply Chain Management is a prerequisite. This course also satisfies the prerequisite for SCM 421 Supply Chain Modeling and Analysis.
It focuses on introducing classic models and solutions within the context of demand fulfillment. This class teaches you the strategic framework, managerial issues, and modeling methods related to planning and execution of demand fulfillment processes in a supply chain. It is organized in three modules, in each of which you will learn basic tools for analyzing operational problems, quantitative methods of managing that aspect of operations, as well as a strategic view. The three modules are:
1. Demand Management and Forecasting
Time series models (MA, ES, Holt, Seasonal Factor Analysis, Winter)
Causal models (simple and multiple linear regressions)
Machine learning (introductory of time series ML models and regression ML models)
Relevance-based prediction (introductory)
2. Order Fulfillment and Inventory Management
Deterministic models (EOQ, quantity-discount)
Stochastic models (Newsvendor and multi-period)
3. Distribution and Transportation
