Dr. Andrew J. Yost is the principal investigator of the Surface Microscopy and Spectroscopy Group (SMSG) in the Department of Physics at Oklahoma State University (OSU). Dr. Yost received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Department of Physics at Baylor University in 2011. In 2012 Dr. Yost moved, with his family, to Wyoming to attend graduate school and received his Masters and Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Wyoming in 2014 and 2017, respectively. While in graduate school Dr. Yost worked under the guidance of Prof. TeYu Chien and focused on studying the electronic structure across interfaces and surfaces of solar cell materials using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/S). After graduate school, from 2017-2019, Dr. Yost was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate and Research Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). Dr. Yost worked with Prof. Peter Dowben to explore the electronic structure, magnetic texture, and chemical composition of different materials and interfaces using surface sensitive techniques such as Magneto Optical Kerr Effect (MOKE) microscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), X-ray Magnetic Circular Dicrhoism (XMCD) spectroscopy, electronic transport and device measurements, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), inverse photoemission spectroscopy (IPES), and scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/S). After a couple years of postdoctoral work Dr. Yost accepted an Assistant Professor position in the Physics Department at Oklahoma State University in Fall of 2019. Dr. Yost’s SMSG has a primary goal of exploring the evolution of the local density of states and band structure at surfaces and across interfaces of novel materials for applications in optospintronics, photovoltaics, and beyond.
