Welcome!

I am an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Political Science, and affiliate faculty in the International Studies program at Louisiana State University where I teach courses in Comparative Politics and Latin American Politics. I received my Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of New Mexico in December 2012.

My research interests include the study of descriptive representation, legislative behavior, electoral systems, gender quotas, election administration, Mexican Politics, and Latin American Politics. I have previously published articles in The Journal of Politics, Comparative Political Studies, Legislative Studies Quarterly, Electoral Studies, Political Research Quarterly, PS: Political Science & Politics, Democratization, Latin American Politics & Society, Politics, Groups and Identities and Social Science Quarterly, along with several book chapters.

My current research projects examine: 1) the consequences of gender quotas, 2) agenda setting in multiparty presidential systems, 3) legislative collaboration and effectiveness, and 4) the underrepresentation of the working class in legislatures.
