Introduction:A gravity tube makes different pitched sounds depended on the frequency. Each gravity tube has an opened and closed end, the sound and pitch depending on which direction you turn it.
Materials:
Gravity Tubes
Procedure:When the tube is tilted vertically down the hollow plastic plug on the inside moves from top to bottom. As said plug moves air moves through and the stream is split by the metal bevel in the middle of the plug. which then sends airs whirling in the cavity of the tube, and compressing and expanding it until it finally exits the tube. it also works by using frequency. When the tube is , yet again, turned vertically towards the open end the length of the tube where the sound is created decreases and the wavelength also decreases, creating a higher frequency and pitch. when the gravity tube is the flipped into the opposite direction, towards the closed end, the length of the tube that the sound is created in increase and the wavelength also increases, which creates a lower frequency and pitch. When the sound is isolated at the open end of the tube the sound is high and shrill because the wave length is small and frequency is high. Then when the sound is isolated at the closed end of the tube it creates a deeper sound since the wavelength is longer and the frequency lower.
Scientific Principle: The gravity tubes uses the scientific principle of sound, the properties of air, and the same basic principles of a whistle.
Safety Regulations: There are no safety regulations for this project.
