For those of you doing psychometric experiments and needed to calculate threshold, you will find find these matlab scripts helpful. First of all, you need to download EzyFit toolbox from here. It's a free toolbox. Follow the installation instructions. What you need to do is to assign data of interest properly and you'll all set. Let me know if you encounter any difficulty in using it or you've spotted a bug.
With this Excel spreadsheet, you can calculate the visual angle from the pixel size of the stimuli or the other way around. Download the spreadsheet.
According to Bakeman (2005), generalized eta squared provided a better measurement of the effect size. This Excel spreadsheet provided templates for designs that are often used in psychology studies. You just need to insert the sum of square for each factor and the generalized eta squared is calculated for you. Download the spreadsheet.

This fellowship is designed for PhD holders in their early career. Those who are recently awarded with a PhD or with less than 5 years of postdoctoral experience are eligible to apply for this fellowship. One important thing to bare in mind is that this fellowship is meant for you do some career planning rather than conducting new research. In addition, they recommended that you go somewhere else rather than stay at your home institution and to work with someone else from the similar field. My recommended application procedure:
Download both of the guidelines on ESRC website. Guideline 1. Guideline 2.
Check the FAQ & Help Section in Je-S (This area contained loads of information that you need to know!!)
After you understand the guidelines, you need to find yourself a mentor in the institution that you wish do postdoc for an year. Explain to him/her what you plan to do and see if he/she are willing to be your mentor. Once they agree, you'll need to ask them for help on the following things: 1) the person to contact to sort out the budget for the proposal. 2) their mentoring arrangements. 3) head of department statement. 4) suggest suitable referees (one of the two referees can be your PhD supervisor).
Register an account on Je-S. You can register at any time but your account needs to be activated. It's a bit unclear whom should activate your account. In my case, my home institution did it for me. But it can also be your prospect insitution. Not very clearly stated in their guideline. As long as someone activates your account, you're allow to submit the proposal.
Follow the guidelines to complete the application form. Perhaps you can ask people who have applied for this fellowship for a copy of their proposal. It really helps!
More communication with your future mentor. When everything's ready, just click on validate the document and then submit it. Then it's on the way to be reviewed by the research council.
Note that the panel only meets in April, July and October. So you got to think when is the suitable time to apply. You can apply even when you have not obtained your PhD. Good luck!
Give me a shout if you have any question about the application process. I'm no expert but can share my experience with you.
Special thanks to Hannah, Polly and Chris who advised me during my application process.
