Abstract

Nowadays, the area of distributed computing is rapidly growing. The history of parallel computing is paved by mainframes followed by clusters which are still dominantly used within scientific community. However, they are characterized by high initial costs and more often by very expensive energy demands which forbids their usage for an everyday use. Oppositely, cheap technologies like multi-processors graphical cards and volunteer computing within the GRID environment offer an easy accessible computing power. Therefore, the biggest advantage is their availability and cheapness. However, the number of scientific problems suitable for such a type of distributed computing is limited.

Hence, the aim of this project is to investigate possibilities of parallelization of several engineering tasks on low-cost platforms that enable the dissemination of the parallel computing within the broader engineering and industrial community.
