528th FABn Unit insignia
While researching my Grandfather's WWII service, I found very little information available on-line about the 528th Field Artillery Battalion of which he served. There are many contributing factors to this, some explored on this site. That said, I wanted to share what I have found over the years to honour those who served with this Artillery Battalion and for anyone else who may have an interest.
During WWII, the Army of the United States activated the 528th Field Artillery Battalion on 21 February 1944 at Camp Hood, Texas, as part of the 224th Field Artillery Group. While this Unit Insignia was created after the WWII, around 1955, it was designed to honour the WWII service following the description below:
Left: Artillery insignia.
Right: The "Long Toms" in action.
