Welcome to 9th SDS16

The main purpose of this workshop series is to put together researchers of different areas, in particular mathematicians engineers and computer scientists, to give them the opportunity of discussing recent development in computational and theoretical methods for Dynamical Systems and their applications.

This edition follows eight previous editions held at the Hotel Villaggio Porto Giardino starting in 2001.

Each edition of the workshop focused on different topics. The series started in 2001 with the subject of ODEs in matrix groups. The past two editions have been devoted mainly to nonsmooth dynamical systems. The 2016 edition will consider different aspects of the theory and numerics of differential equations (ODEs, PDEs, fractional, non-smooth) together with applications in different fields.

The workshop begins on Tuesday morning, June 14, and ends on Friday afternoon, June 17. There will be a total of 10 fifty minutes long plenary lectures and 23 twenty-five minutes long contributed talks. There will be a poster session on Tuesday afternoon. The registration fee includes the conference dinner that will be held on Thursday evening at the masseria Lamiola Piccola in Montalbano.

SDS16 participants may also wish to consider submitting their papers to a special issue of Computer&Mathematics with Applications (Special issue Advanced numerical methods for dynamics described by PDEs and related topics) or to a special issue of Discrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems - Series B (Special issue Structural Dynamical Systems). The review processes will follow the same guidelines of the host journals.

The issues will be dedicated to the memory of Timo Eirola and Uwe Helmke who we will miss and remember for their scientific contributions of course but especially for their friendship.

A particular thank is due to the sponsors of this workshop, in alphabetical order

• Dipartimento di Ingegneria Elettrica e dell’Informazione Politecnico di Bari,

• Dipartimento di Matematica Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro,

• Dipartimento di Matematica e Fisica Ennio De Giorgi Università del Salento, Lecce,

• GNCS - Gruppo Nazionale per il Calcolo Scientico (I.N.D.A.M.),

• IAC-CNR, Istituto per le Applicazioni del Calcolo ”M. Picone” Sez. di Bari. Their financial help was essential to the organization of this meeting.

We wish you all a great SDS 2016 !
