Sign of the times
I would like to thank all who attended the reinstallation of the Entering Historic Smith Point sign on William Floyd Parkway on Monday, August 17. We had a great gathering with refreshments at the Mastic Beach Firehouse afterward. Together we can be the eyes and ears of our community and make sure our precious sign will not be taken again.
Thank you to Fire Island National Seashore Senior Park Ranger Elesby; Suffolk County Park Police Sergeant Tom Shiliro; MaryAnn Johnson, president of the Affiliated Brookhaven Civic Organization; Bob Licari, president of the Woodland Estates Homeowners at Smith Point; representatives from the Smith Point Chamber of Commerce; and Smith Point Beach Village Committee volunteers, guests and members for attending this important unveiling of the hamlet sign.
I want to express the importance of preserving our history in the hamlet of Smith Point, which dates back to the 1700s. We are determined to continue to stand by our hard work and accomplishments in our hamlet by supporting our right to preserve our boundaries and saying no to any person who wants to jeopardize the history and change the area that is officially recognized as the hamlet of Smith Point.
The Smith Point Beach Property Owners Association is not affiliated with the individual who has been going door to door to gather census information. There is only one committee with history.
Future meetings will be held on the third Monday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Mastic Beach Firehouse and on the last Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Community Library.
The Smith Point Beach Property Owners Association future meeting dates and times are always advertised on our signs on Havenwood Drive and William Floyd Parkway across from the new CVS pharmacy.
Thank you.
