League
The league operates in a round robin fashion, with each player partnering with every other player on the court over three sets.
There are three sessions during the season. Level movements will be made at the end of each session.
All matches begin at 9:30am, with a 10 minute warm up.
Schedules are posted on the website.
Order of Play
Player #1 is responsible for bringing a new ball and reporting the scores for all players on her court by entering them directly into the website. Scores should be reported ASAP but no later than Thursday evening. The computer doesn't automatically generate the standings spreadsheets - it must be done manually, and it's critical that everyone gets their scores in by Thursday evening! Any scores missing on Friday morning will be recorded as 0's for everyone on the court.
Three sets are played in a match, with deuces played out. At 6-6, play a 7-point tie breaker to determine the winner; record 6-7 or 7-6 as the match score. First set, players 1 and 2 partner. Second set, players 1 and 3 partner. Third set, players 1 and 4 partner.
Scoring With A Sub
Subs scores will not be included in the calculations to determine standings. The average of the number of sets each individual player wins versus number of sets she played in a session is used for standings. We strongly encourage every player to find subs at the appropriate play level so that everyone may enjoy the match; we know it is not always easy, but your extra effort is greatly appreciated by all. (It is permissible to use a sub who is NOT on the sublist as long as they play at the appropriate level.)
If there is a sub, please enter the score as usual, but record the name of the sub. Sub scores will not be counted when calculating standings nor will they be used to determine level movement. Each week, players will be ranked by the number of sets each player won as a percentage of the number of sets played.
Please remember that players who share a spot cannot sub in this league. The result of a match with an improper sub will be a forfeit. If you have a last minute sub cancellation, consider asking the sub to help find a replacement. You can also contact the league coordinators for help.
Please be sure the sub can stay to finish the entire match. If a sub or player must leave before the match ends, the sub/player who must leave is considered to have forfeited the match. That player will receive 0 sets and 0 games. The other three players will each receive 2 sets and 15 games.
Late Arrivals / No Shows
A player is considered a no show if she is 15 minutes or more late, and will forfeit the match, receiving 0 sets and 0 games. The other three players will each receive 2 sets and 15 games.
If you are running late but arrive within the 15 minute window, please note warm up is limited to the first 10 minutes, play is expected to start at 9:40am. If you are late, you will have to play without a warm-up so play can end on time.
Injuries
If play is stopped due to injury, please contact paddlethursday@gmail.com to discuss how to report scoring for the match. Each situation will be evaluated individually to determine how to be as fair as possible to all players on the court.
Reporting Scores
Players bringing the balls are responsible for reporting the scores by entering them into the website immediately after play, but no later than Thursday evening. Any scores missing on Friday morning will be recorded as 0's. Following is a handy format to use on the court to keep track of your scores and easily transfer them to the website.
Player #1 is responsible for reporting scores for all four players on the court.
DIRECTIONS:
Player 1 should go to the website https://sites.google.com/view/womensthursdaypaddle/home , click on "Report Scores" and then click on your level to report scores
Player 1 should enter the scores for player #1 and click submit; on the next screen click "submit another response"
Player 1 should enter the scores for player #2 and click submit; on the next screen, click "submit another response"
Player 1 should enter the scores for player #3 and click submit; on the next screes, click "submit another response"
Player 1 should enter the scores for player #4 and click submit; on the next screen, "x" out to close the window
If you aren't comfortable with the score entry process, email scores for your entire court to paddlethursday@gmail.com.
Standings
The standings spreadsheet is updated and posted to the website on Fridays. At the end of each session, the Thursday Paddle Committee will review the standings and make level changes. Each player’s standing will be based upon an average of the number of sets won versus number of sets played. In case of a tie, we will look at the percentage of game won. In order to move up, a player must have played at least half of the scheduled matches in a session. Players who have used subs for more that half of the scheduled matches may be moved down at the discretion of the league coordinators. Please appreciate the extra effort we are going through to review the standings and respect our decisions. We all want players in an appropriate level!
Weather Cancellations
Matches are cancelled if schools are closed due to weather. If the league is not cancelled, all players must report to their assigned club for play. If a court is unplayable on the scheduled day of play (ice that won't clear, too rainy/wet for safe play, etc), the foursome has the option of cancelling or finding a time to play the match before the following Thursday. This is the ONLY circumstance where a rescheduled match will be allowed. Player #1 is responsible for communicating the status to paddlethursday@gmail.com. If the match cannot be completed before the following Thursday, the match will automatically be recorded as cancelled.
Finding A Sub
If for any reason you are unable to play, you are responsible for obtaining a level-appropriate sub to play for you. The sub does not have to be on our sub list in order to play. Do not ask the other players on your court to reschedule, it is NOT ALLOWED this year. If you have problems finding a sub, reach out to others on your court, as many times they can be of help finding a 4th, assuming you're not doing this at the last minute. Everyone really wants to play on Thursday mornings!
If you have lined up a sub for yourself, you must notify the others on your court and provide them with contact info for your sub. Also, if you're scheduled to be court captain on a day that you have a sub, it is still your responsibility to provide the ball and report the scores, or arrange for someone on your court to handle it for you.
We are trying to constantly add players to our sub list, if you know someone please have them email paddlethursday@gmail.com. They should include their name, cell phone number, email address and level of play.
Communication
All league communication will be done via email and the website. If you do not have access to a computer, it is your responsibility to contact someone to get the updates. If you have any questions during the season, please contact paddlethursday@gmail.com or ask you fellow players for clarification.
Communication with the area clubs will be done ONLY by the league coordinators. Please do not contact the clubs directly. If you have a specific need (an earlier start time, for example) please email the league coordinators to try and facilitate any changes in arrangements.
MOST IMPORTANTLY
This is a league with FUN and SPIRITED competition. We are working hard to keep things simple, fair and most of all FUN. Please have fun out there!
