Square dancing is a very sociable activity, there are no complicated steps to learn or long routines to remember.  It's ideal for couples, families and those without a dance partner too and you are always assured of a warm welcome.

To square dance, all you need are comfortable shoes, casual clothes, a quick mind, a willingness to learn, reasonable mobility and above all a sense of fun… and square dancing IS fun, from the moment you step onto the floor to the moment you leave the hall at the end.  Age is no bar except that very young children – under about 10, tend not to have the discipline required.

Recommended by the British Heart Foundation, square dancing is the perfect exercise, as it combines all the positive aspects of intense physical exercise with none of the negative elements. Square dancing is a low impact activity requiring constant movement and quick directional changes that keep the body in shape. As with all regular exercise, square dancing can lead to a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure and improved cholesterol profile.
