🏡 Peaceful Countryside & Historic Villages
Explore the charming Wirral countryside on this gentle 3-mile circular walk connecting the historic villages of Brimstage and Thornton Hough. Starting from Brimstage Village Green, the route weaves through quiet farmland, serene field paths, and scenic bridleways, offering peaceful views of rural Cheshire and passing picturesque landmarks like the local school and Brimstage Hall Craft Centre.
From the Jack and Jill Day Nursery (formerly Brimstage Village Hall), cross the main road, turn left and after about 50m, turn right at the footpath guide post marked “Footpath to Thornton Hough”. This is FP24. Walk across four fields to join a private drive.
Cross the drive, walk through a gap and enter the field opposite.
Walk across the field to a gap which leads onto a bridleway (BR47). Turn left. When you meet a second private driveway, bear left and follow the surfaced track round a right hand corner.
Continue along the surfaced track. Just before the cottages, turn right through a kissing gate to join FP28. Cross three fields, through a gate then turn left to join the main road (B5136).
Turn right and walk along the pavement towards Thornton Hough.
Before reaching the village, cross the road and, just after a large monkey puzzle tree, turn right onto FP26 and walk past the side of the school. Continue past the farm buildings to T junction with a lane.
Turn right towards a private drive. After about 70m and immediately before the gate, turn left onto FP26. Walk through several fields and kissing gates and rejoin Bridleway 47.
Continue straight on to Talbot Avenue.
Turn right and join main road for about 150m. Bear right at the bend onto FP25 which leads to and across the car park of Brimstage Hall and Craft Centre.
Turn left down the drive to the B5137 and across the road to the Village Green and the end of the walk.
