Our Story

For more than 50 years, taking care of people's eyes has been William's life-long profession in Hong Kong. In 1958, he entered the optical field when he joined the Chinese optical Company, the oldest and largest optical store in Asia then. Five years later, he founded his first optical shop with a classmate. In 1968, he became a certified optometrist in the U.S., thereby becoming the second person in Hong Kong to receive such qualification.

William’s Optical was established under sole proprietorship in the same year and it was recommended by the US embassy in Hong Kong. William’s was located in the heart of downtown Hong Kong and remained there until he immigrated to Canada in 1994. Some of his former clients included celebrities such as John Lennon, Elizabeth Taylor, William Holdem, and many more.

Danny, William’s younger son, obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California. He then pursued further studies at the American College of Optechs. He then became a certified licensed optician and contact lens fitter both in the US and in Canada. He joined the company in 1996 at the optical shop in downtown Vancouver (Royal Centre).

Anticipating the changes to the BC Health Legislation regarding sight testing, both William and Danny pursued the necessary education and certification to become licensed Refracting Opticians in B.C. Canada. On May 1, 2010 the Minister of Health signed into force the new Opticians Regulation, allowing registered Licensed Refracting Optician to perform independent sight testing. Prior to this, William has be sight testing for over 40 years. He believes that an accurate and up-to-date prescription is a crucial requirement to any good and comfortable pair of glasses. Both William and Danny are licensed Refracting Opticians.
