Graham Wilkinson graduated from the Australian National University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science (Forestry) degree with first class honours and was awarded the Sir William Schlich Medal for Forestry. He spent the first 10 years of his career as an operational forester in the sub-tropical and temperate forests of New South Wales. This was followed by a decade as a specialist silviculturalist and forest research manager in Tasmania, during which time he completed a Masters degree in forestry science.
From 1996 to 2015 he was the head of Tasmania's Forest Practices Authority where he had statutory responsibility for the day to day administration of the forest regulation system across public and private land. In this capacity he managed a team of specialists in fields as diverse as forest biodiversity, soils, streams, geomorphology, cultural heritage, visual management, monitoring, compliance and forest law enforcement. He also provided training and leadership for over 230 forest practices officers responsible for forest planning and operations within the public and private forestry sectors.
Graham has undertaken assignments as a forestry expert within five states of Australia and in eleven countries within the Asia-Pacific region (see Clients).
In 2007 Graham was made a fellow of the Institute of Foresters of Australia in recognition of his services to forestry.
