A note from the Chair
I hope this finds you well and enjoying the bowling season. There’s been lots happening at the club recently, and I wanted to share a few updates, success stories, and plans for the months ahead.
A Big Thank You!
Firstly, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped organise the recent new member taster sessions. These events don’t just happen by magic, it takes time, enthusiasm, and teamwork. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we’ve welcomed 22 new bowlers, many of whom are already playing in their first competitive league games. It’s wonderful to see their enthusiasm and love for the game taking root.
Back to 'Play by the Bell'
After careful consideration, the committee has decided to return to starting and finishing games on the bell. While the experimental 'ten-minute rule' helped us test timings with our new automatic timer system, it also caused a few issues with teams starting at different times. This will come into effect from 1st November. Our generous rink time allowance of two hours and seven minutes for an 18-end game, means most matches can comfortably be completed within the time. We believe this approach keeps things fair for everyone.
Coming Soon: Bowlr Online Booking
We’re excited to announce that the club will soon be introducing the Bowlr online booking system. This will help streamline rink bookings, league management, and competitions, reducing the workload on our volunteer administrators. Members will be able to check rink availability and see league standings in real time. For those less comfortable with technology, don’t worry! Support will be available so everyone can continue to enjoy bowls with ease.
Defibrillator Awareness Session
Your safety is always a priority. We’re hosting an awareness session on how to use a defibrillator, and we invite all members to attend. Please also familiarise yourselves with the club’s postcode and the ‘What3Words’ location code displayed on the first aid board. Having this information ready could make all the difference in an emergency.
Roof Repairs Completed
Good news! Recent roof repairs over rink five should put an end to those pesky drips when it rains. A big thank you to everyone who helped organise and oversee this maintenance work.
Hall Bookings & Upcoming Events
Our function room bookings are looking strong right through to the New Year. We’ve got plenty of exciting events coming up, including our Christmas Dinner and New Year’s Eve Celebration. Your participation not only makes these events special but also helps raise valuable funds to enhance our facilities.
Music Around the Club
You may have noticed that we’ve been trialling background music around the club. After a member vote, the majority supported introducing it to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We’re joining many other clubs that use light background music to enhance the experience for everyone.
Can You Help?
Our club thrives because of our amazing volunteers. If you have skills in first aid, carpentry, building, admin, or anything else you think could help, please speak to a committee member. Every bit of support makes a real difference.
Thank you once again for your continued support and enthusiasm. Let’s keep the spirit of the club alive and enjoy every moment on the green.
Happy Bowling!
Stuart, Chairman
