Before the turn of the 20th century, in ,1895, Mrs. Greenham donated to the settlers of Whitefield a building and a small sum of money, stipulating that one room be named after her husband, and be kept for visiting clergy. With extra funds raised from the residents the building was completed in 1905 and known as the ‘Whitefield Settlers Institute’.
On 1st. May 1937 the ‘Whitefield Recreation Club’ (WRC) was formed and took over the running and maintenance of the place. In 1948 it was extended with an addition of a large hall and two small rooms. In 1962 the two side extensions were added.
The WRC was founded with the object of promoting literary and social improvement of the community in the way of concerts and other entertainment, indoor and outdoor games, and other amusement events from time to time devised by the members and their guests.
In 2008 the club building was repaired and restored keeping the same old look. The main body of the club remained the same, but the walls have been strengthened. Added to one side is the Billiards room, and a mezzanine floor over the kitchen area which houses the Library and the Pool table. Additionally the club was renamed as “THE WHITEFIELD CLUB”, (TWC).
