Firing fees
Only clays made and sold by Wheel Art Pottery Studio are allowed to be fired in our kilns to avoid contamination issues and destruction of kilns and other people's work.
Only work created by customers who have previously taken an approved class through Wheel Art Pottery Studio may have the option to fire work in our kilns without being a student or member. Special conditions and considerations apply.
For non-students/non-members, firing fees do not include glazing or use of our glaze materials. Any glaze material used has to be approved by Wheel Art Pottery Studio. For a list of approved commercial glazes, go to this form.
Non-students/non-members can sign up for a private class to glaze pieces they create at private sessions, Wheel 101 or First Friday Classes, using Wheel Art Pottery Studio house glazes. Cost is $55 for a 1 hour session for up to four participants. This needs to be arranged before or during the time of the class when the pieces are created. Pieces created outside of the studio need to be created according to Wheel art Pottery Studio Standards and need to be bisque fired by Wheel Art Pottery Studio, first.
For Members and students, firing fees include the use of our studio house glazes. All cone 6 studio house glazes are non-toxic, compatible with our studio house clays, and will safely handle temperatures up to 2250 Fahrenheit. Members and Students can only use house glazes with staff supervision. Members and students can also purchase their own glazes and underglazes that are approved by Wheel Art Pottery Studio.
It is imperative to apply glaze according to specifications of the particular material. Not doing so can result in damage to other people's work, kilns and kiln furniture.
Non-student, non-member work requires a $50 deposit per firing to cover the cost of potential damage to other people's work or kiln furniture. (pottery explosions, glaze running/dripping/spitting). If there are damages beyond $50, customer will receive an invoice for additional damages. If there are no issues with the pieces through the firing process, the deposit is applied to customer's account to cover firing charges. Remaining amount is returned to the customer.
Fired work can only be picked up after invoices are paid in full.
