The "Encyclopedia of Management" defines statistics as a field of knowledge that helps
to derive and evaluate conclusions about a population from sample data. In other words,
it helps to make generalizations about a large group based on what is found in a smaller
group. Its main fields are: gathering, selecting, and classifying data. Based on this data
the validity and reliabilty has to be evaluated.
