Hawaii
The state of Hawaii is an island group of the USA located in the northern Pacific Ocean. The eight major islands among the numerous islets are Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Niihau and Kahoolawe. Together with the numerous islets the state exists of 132 islands with a total area of 6, 470 square miles with 1,275,194 inhabitants (2005), 377,260 of them are living in the capital Honolulu. All the islands were formed by volcanic eruptions. The largest active volcanic crater of the world is on the island of Hawaii.
