Transylvania, in German “Siebenbürgen”, is an ancient area and province situated in central Romania. The Carpathian Mountains, as well as the Transylvanian Alps, separate Transylvania from the rest of the country. From the 11th century until the first half of the 20th century, when the region was incorporated into Romania, it belonged to Hungary. Only in 1947, after World War II, the region was assigned to Romania.
