The Presbyterian system of church leadership goes back to Rhineland and Swiss Reformers during the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. It is a form of church government applied mainly by Reformed and Presbyterian Churches worldwide. A main feature of this church is that women make up 63 per cent of the worshipers. Moreover, the majority of the members are very conservative on theological issues. The church government has churches and members in the U.S, Scotland, Ireland, England, as well as in Germany and France. According to John Calvin, the church government system was based on the bible and the church’s experiences. Furthermore, the church was seen as “a community or body in which Christ only is head and all members are equal under him”. The entire church forms the ministry but is shared among various officers.
